Although there are many people that argue that things such as play system and 10ft trampoline should not be allowed in the playground as they worried about health and safety I feel that in some instances you are actually denying kids a proper childhood.
What are these reasons?
One of the big problems is that schools are too scared to go with big projects fearing that something may happen and a parent will take action against them. The terribkle thing is that there are many people that wouldnt mind suing a school for nothing at all. If a child falls of something then yes, fair enough it could be to do with the school not taking care of the children but in the most instance it is because kids are being kids and they are always falling over.
Something else that has a lot to do with it is price, they can be very expensive ideas to put in place. This is why it can be a lot easier to host a fair or something like that so that a lot of money can be raised so that the school can improve upon many of the things that it already has in the playground. The average school sized wooden, giant play adventure would easily set you back at least £5,000 and the government are just not often prepared to pay for it all.
This does seem to be a very big problem and relying on the public to come up with the cash isnt really a great idea as they are supposed to be paying taxes for this sort of thing!
The best thing to do is make sure that there is at least something in the playground to keep the kids occupied or they will have very boring lunch hours.
