just hanging around asked:
as a kid, my toys was being kicked outside and figure out the toys in nature. like building treehouse, throwing rocks, and drinking dads beers.

I like to buy my boys toys that keep them active inside when they can’t be out and then toys outside during warmer months so they can play outside and stay active. I try to buy toys that teach them things even when they don’t realize they are learning something new. Really it isn’t about what is popular or the “must haves” with me and my kids. I am not the type to pay like hundreds of dollars for the newest hotest toy.

not important at all; they have all they need

Not important. Its fun to see them get a cool toy they like but for the most part my kids don’t play with toys they like to play outside and color.

It’s not important at all. My son is an only child and is usally lonely. He fills that void with toys. I try to discourage it as much as possible, but it’s hard.

Nope i dont think it is important. Thats how kids become stroppy when they dont get what they want. Yes treat them every now and then, especially when they deserve it but otherwise they need to learn to be happy with what they have.
My Aunt and Uncle always get there kids new things, thier play room is huge, they have everything and yet they fight all the time, they ALWAYS misbehave and they are plain out right rude. Selfish little kids they are. I dont want my son turning out like that. I want him to be happy and greatful for what he already has. There are kids out there who have nothing!

Whats most important when it comes to “Toys” for my boys is “can they enjoy and learn from them”…Sure , new up to date toys Rock!!, but there are alot of them that are “cheaply” made and break during the first “play”..so some Uptodate ones I tend to stay away from..lol…I tend to buy inside and outside toys…My Boys have both quiet and gross motor experiences…Its to show them that there are “inside quite, fine motor skills to learn. And Outside their mostly “Gross motor skills” put to use..and energy that goes on forever..They have their own “learning laptops ” that they also use..to learn theyre reading/math skills..learning how to count/read/ and write…I love those type of toys….There s also the “shaker cars”…they Rock…I bought them alot of shaker cars and tracks that we all play w/….They also own a ton of “hotwheel/matchbox cars”…soooo many..I cant keep count…lol..They rock also!! Theres a special huge rug that has roads and towns on it especially made for “matchbox” cars…and hot wheels..small versions…See, just “everyday plainold wooden blocks” teach math/reading/science skills..Ive , myself playing w/ them also..have learned even more..
They always get excited when theyve accomplished..or learned..something…Its soooo very awesome to see the look on their faces…when they accomplish and learn..Its a priceless look that will be embedded into my heart forever…My boys love to color, draw, and write letters and numbers theyre learnin somethin new everyday…and that is very awsome..I dont think , myself, that I will ever, ever grow up in this department..I love toys as well….Sometimes my Boys will get upset w/ me….cuz Im so excited in playin w/ all of em also…that they wanna help…lol. its sooo hilarius..and funny..I do love them so much..I feel that any adult can also learn from children….Hun, you take care and God Bless..;)

You know what. It doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t matter if they are educational or not. Toys are toys. They are not school. Yes, kids need toys, but they don’t need every toy. They need toys to expand their imagination. Not their intellect. Besides that, my kids would rather play with stuff other than their toys. You know, stuff they are not supposed to play with. Besides that, it a week or two, those toys will be outdated.

I had the same toys you did. lol. I encourage more parents to kick their kids outside and make them think/ interact with the things around them. Spoiling them with the newest stuff isn’t teaching them anything except that you don’t have to work for what you want. There is no greater feeling in the world than a sense of accomplishment and getting something earned. My treehouse/ fort was the best as a kid. I loved it and would rather spend time there than in front of the tv or video games. It is a shame more parents don’t remember the cool stuff from their childhoods.
