kids toys
chris asked:

My cat is spayed and brings in the kids small toys every night and she cries. She had a litter about 6 months ago and she started doing this about 2 weeks ago. Im guessing its because she is missing her babies.. Any ideas of what it could be or how to treat the problem?

yes she is very much missing her babies… it’s very sad for her that you took them . and was careless that you didnt have her spayed before hand. give her lots of love and attention… bring her into bed with you and she should sleep soundly next to you if you pet her for a few minutes.

How soon did you remove the kittens? Just like how kittens can have weird or different behaviors when they are separated from mommy to early, so can the momma cat. If she was recently spayed, she is still having her momma kitty instincts, and even animals who had a litter 10 years ago, can still have that instinct to be parents. So, i would say, wait it out, if she continues, talk to a vet, but probably giving her lots of attention, and possibly getting her a companion pet might help.

I would say you need to get her a kitten and see if she stops crying. Sounds like you may have gotten her fixed to soon, or maybe got rid of her kittens to soon.

My cats actually do the same thing and they have been spayed since they were about 12 weeks old and never pregnant. They cry to show me that they bring in the toy. If I talk to them, they will stop meowing. I think they just want to show you what they’ve done and maybe want some attention. I wouldn’t worry about it.

i’m glad to see someone who’s responsible enough to get their cat fixed! i’m assuming the kittens have been gone now for 3-4 months or so? she really probably isn’t missing them much - cats have a very short memory when it comes to litters. more likely, she is showing you her catch of the day. just because she’s spayed, her hunting instincts are still in place.

my neutered cats do this as well, both male and female. they act like a peacock when i see what they’ve brought me every night. it’s usually one of their feathered cat toys, but sometimes it’s my daughter’s stuffed animals or a hair tie or paper. it varies by cat and day, but a quick ackowledgement usually quiets them down for a while.

Night time is when most animals have the hunting instinct. She’s killing things for you! My cat ‘kills’ wash cloths, tshirts, the kitchen sponge and cloth napkins, she makes terrible sounds as she drags them to the bedroom, then jumps up on the bed to get my approval for the gifts! (i’m just glad she doesn’t kill animals for me). give her love and pets to thank her. It doesn’t seem likely that it’s related to missing her kitties or any kind of maternal instinct, it sounds like a hunting thing. peace.
