No- they are usually dirty looking.. most kids go there because they are sick..the sick kids touch the toys then your kid touches the toys.. you dont know what the other kid actually has.
i was always allowed too… i guess if you think about it it could be a bad idea, bunch of sick kids played with em before you did… but it never killed me!
no way lol sorry but people go there cos they are sick and im guessing half of them do not wash there hands before playing with them.. i take my own for my daughter:)
I work in the Pediatric department of a hospital. They have a playroom where all toys are closely monitored and any toys a child used has to be placed in the “dirty toy” bin. They get washed - sterilized - daily. It’s not to say some kid doesn’t see a toy he wants in the dirty bin and take it out, but the parents are supposed to be in their watching them so hopefully they wouldn’t let their child do that. (You never know…)
Most pediatric offices I have been to have the sick and well waiting rooms separate, so the “germs” from a sick baby won’t get on the toys a child who’s there for a routine physical plays with. Kids do get dirty and have germs in general, though. So I guess you can’t be too sure.
On the other hand, it is good to expose your child to SOME germs and bacteria to build up their immune systems.
If it was just me taking my little people to the doctor then I would let them play with the toys. Their mother has OCPD and she would probably pass out if she saw them playing with the toys. Once she came to she would proceed to cover their bodies with hand sanitizer.
Yes, I do, and I always have liquid sanitizer and antibacterial wipes, and we use them regularly. It would be cruel to not allow a kid to play, what is he supposed to just look at how the other kids have fun? A trip to the doctor’s office is stressful enough for them. Just sanitize their hands, and make sure they don’t put anything in the mouth.
Yes, because he’s a kid. I’d be evil to say no to him when the purpose of the toys in the office is for children to play with them. If people are stressing about germs, well, hey, you’ll get more germs on a doorknob than you will on those kids’ toys. Doctor’s office or not!
My kids are older now but when they were little I would not let them near those toys. Too many sick kids going through there. We would bring a toy and books from home if I thought the wait would be long. People are saying it’s cruel not to let them play with the toys, to me it’s cruel to knowingly expose your child to germs that can make them sick. What’s the difference if you bring toys from home? It’s not cruel, it’s called good parenting.
No,I bring my tote bag filled with toys that I cleaned at home.I don’t let them play with it becuase other sickkids touched the toys,I don’t want my kids to get even sicker.
I worked in a pediatric/family practice clinic years ago, and at one point we had to REMOVE the toys because they were so germ infested they were getting every child sick!
We all know that even if a clinic has sick/well areas, the children play with the toys regardless of their status. Sorry, but as a scientist I cannot in good conscience let my child touch those toys after seeing the nasty, snot nosed kids that touch them.
I didn’t use to but am okay with it now. My reason was the germs but I figure there are germs all over that waiting room anyway; if they want to, why not! My guess is the toys get cleaned as much, if not more than the chairs. I do watch them and use hand sanitizer, don’t let them put their hands in their mouth, etc. But, I’m not as paranoid as I once was. Besides, other people’s toys seem to be more exciting to my boys than their own.
my son is only 7 months old, but I don’t really give him stuff at the dr.s office like books and toys. Its weird because I am not a germ a phobe at all, but something about knowing all the snotty sick kids have slimed all that stuff makes me kind of squeamish about it. When he is older I will let him if he wants to.
It really depends on which dr we go to. Family dr is almost always clean and they are great about sanitizing everything all the time, ER rooms or my OB drs are out of the question.
But if they do I major up on sanitizer and no hands or toys in mouth is my rule too. Also, if there is a kid there who is playing and that kid is sick or doing something unsanitary like nose picking, or **** scratching…ugh…then no way!
I always carry crayons and paper in my purse around just in case or a couple little board book to keep them busy. Sometimes I will get magazines and make up stories and act like I’m reading it to my girls. They really love that and so we do that more that anything, very rare do they play w/ the toys.
Our doctor’s office doesn’t even have toys any more. They did when I was a kid. My mom never allowed me to touch them, but my cousin’s mom did.
Our doctor’s office does still have a gumball machine and books to read. I try to limit our contact with those too. If my daughter is sick - I don’t want her putting her germs on stuff that other kids are going to touch. And I definitely don’t want her picking up more germs.
Instead we try to bring our own fun stuff. I can download pictures and stories to my laptop before leaving the house. We can also put pens, paper, and our own books in a small backpack. Or a doll or two.
The pharmacy has a few small toys. I don’t want her playing with them either. For one thing they look dirty. (wooden toys … porous surfaces are sure to catch germs!) And for another, I don’t want my kid using them to exchange germs with the other kids in town. … I have seen other parents irresponsibly let their sick kids play with these toys and sometimes even stick them in their mouths. Yuck!
i do not have a kid yet but i will never let him play with them
they are dirty you do not know if the last kid who touched them had a cold or something else.
