kids toys
Signilda asked:

Between sports, other after-school activities and homework, my kids have no time to play with their toys. The toys are a huge distraction too. Every time I leave the room for a minute, they ditch the homework and pull out the toys. I am really tired of making them pick them all up after that too.

Kids need toys. Think of their imaginations, like little gears in their heads turning. Its like weight lifting for their muscles, but instead brain building. However, if they are say over 12 - ditch most of them.

sure. and paint their rooms white and take out all pictures and other decorations. Let them be kids! They’re NOT little adults!

How old are they? Can’t you put the toys in another room? You’re the boss so you tell them to do their homework first then play with the toys. You can put the toys away until their work is done at least. Hope this helps!

the moment you gave them the toys, they became your kids’ property. so unless they’re damaged to no possible repair, or your kids tell you that they no longer want them, then you can’t mess with your kids’ toys.

in the same vein, since the toys are your kids’ property, they should be responsible enough to care for them and stow them away after use. they should know the right time to play with them as well –which is after homework.

so your job really is to discipline your kids about time management, keeping neat, and respect for property and you.

i know you’re tired but please, don’t take it out on the poor toys.

The season for sharing and caring is coming. Have your children consider donating some of their toys they have out grown to a local church. Make sure the toy is in good working order, if it requires batteries put in new ones to show it works properly. Introduce the idea of a donation box of clothes, mittens, hats, scarves, coats as well as their unwanted toys, when you are calm and not using it to threaten to deprive them of their favorite toys. Consider starting the box at the beginning of Nov. when they are thinking about things they have to be thankful for. When the box is heaping full take them to the church that helps out the needy and make sure they explain this is for the local children this church helps.

No time, but they want to play with them?

Lose some of the sports and after-school activities. Your kids need time for free play, not just continuous structure.

Having home time is more important than several activities. Kids don’t need to be out of the house to be entertained and they don’t need to be kept busy all the time. Drop some activities.

When we didn’t have any toys we still played…. with valuable china instead of plastic tea-party things and collector dolls instead of Barbies. Take your pick!

NO! They are kids. They need toys. Have them do their homework in the kitchen where there are no toys. That is where my kids do their homework and there are no distractions.

Keep the toys, and work on freeing up some of your kid’s time.

    All the best.

go through them and dived out, ones to donate, ones to keep. With the keepers divide out favorites at this time, then put extras in a tote and store them in about 6 weeks or so rotate them. WOW we got new toys!

Well, it depends how old they are and what the age for the toys. I think you should ask the first just so they won’t get mad at ya.

If you really want to get rid of some of their toys, ask they to pick some out to give to a thrift store so some less fortunate children can have some toys. This worked for my grandson, who never wanted to get rid of anything, but was more than happy to give up toys for someone else.
