kids toys
Teeny Beeny asked:

We saved all of my son’s toys, which was great because my daughter plays with alot of them. But now that she’s outgrown a lot of them, we know we have to get rid of some stuff.

Will you keep some of your kids toys as keepsakes, or to eventually give to grandchildren? Or do you know a good place to donate them, where kids in need will get some use out of them? Or will you sell your kids toys to a second hand store?

send them off to a pregnancy crisis clinic.

Some things, such as the stuffed mouse my daugther carried around for most of her four years, I will keep. Everything else we donate to the United Way.

When we know we’re finished having children, we want to donate everything to an adoption agency or a pregnancy crisis center.

Before i got pregnant again I gave most of my daughter’s away as donations.

I kept a couple of special toys for each child for memories and to pass on , and then I passed the rest on to a neighbor’s babies.

The way I look at it is, you spent good money on these toys so I would take them to a Once upon a Child or another store like that and try and sell them, the ones they dont buy you donate. Use the money you get for the ones they do buy to buy new toys at the second hand store. Plus its spring, so get to work on that spring cleaning girl. Good Luck!

I will weed through them and keep a few select toys. I baby sit so I’ll save them for any future babies that come in to my care. =)

The rest will be passed on to family members or friends.

    -homeless shelter
They ALWAYS need toys and books and are happy to get them. There is 1 down the street from where I work and I drop them off. (we have a newborn but we have tons of books and toys that we had no space for)

I do save a few favorites, but the rest goes to a place where they will be loved again.

Well give them and their clothes to the family safety center where we work. We will keep a toy or two that are particularly dear to them but otherwise they will be put to use. Families escaping domestic violence and abuse take shelter there and we are always short of resources, particularly for babies. The nursery’s furniture will be donated as well.

Im going to keep the toys that she played with/valued the most…Im going to save them for her so when she gets older she can give them to her kids…even though they will probably be antiques by then..LOL..it will still be fun for her kids to see what toys were like then, and what they will be like when they have toys.

As for just random toys she barely played with. Im going to donate some to our local charity, and then some that she didnt play with but were kinda expensive, im going to sell and buy her more age appropriate toys!

I asked a question the other day about memories in a baby book. One lady mentioned a baby box where you put little memorable toys or the smaller things you want to keep as baby grows up. Some of them will go there, but I will definitely donate as many of them as possible to shelters or friends who will be having children.

I can’t be like my husband. Omigosh, we are just now getting rid of some of his toys from when he was little and he’s 23 years old! That crap wasn’t following us to our new house to take up valuable space!

I kept their very favorite toy. The ones they played with the most. Take pictures of them with them also. I gave the rest away either to a mission or church ministry.

Well I’m done having kids & once my daughter outgrows her toys I intend to donate them to the home for orphans & also friend’s kids. I’m also donating larger stuff such as swings & jumperoos to the daycare center where she attends (they said they will take them). Of course I’ll keep a few treasured trinkets here & there. I’m also doing the same thing with clothes.

Well it really depends!! There are certain toys that I have attachments too (I keep the smaller ones in a momento box)! Then there are other ones that are in great used condition, that my kids just dont or didnt get alot of major use out of, those, I sell too a childrens resale shop, or on ebay! Then the ones that have not much resale value, or missing accessories, or just not in mint condition I give to a thrift store, I give mainly to charitable places such as the Goodwill, Salvation Army, Union Gospel Mission, etc. Best Of Luck!!!

I gave all of his toys to a local homeless shelter (women/children/families)

My daughter’s favorite stuffed animals I will save, but the rest i will donate to a homeless shelter or something. I would feel bad selling them knowing there are kids out there who could use them.

I’d like to say I won’t be a pack rat BUT my mom still has all my toys, and so does her sister. Its actually pretty handy when we are at their houses.

On the other hand my MIL kept nothing and just has about 10 toys at her place and that works too -but we are there for shorter periods.

I will probably save a few so we can keep them as a keepsake. The rest I will donate because it will make me feel better giving to people in need rather than selling it so other people can make money. We also have a very large, growing family and I am sure I can give to one of my nieces or nephews who are much younger.

I’m just going through this now. My 10-month old has outgrown a few things and they’re really nice. I think I’m going to clean them up, save a few for our grandchildren and donate the rest.

I’ll cry when doing it. Our days of the Jolly Jumper and the play mat are over! Time goes so quickly!

  20. Barbara S

I’ll probably give them to the family mission in our town. They always appreciate any kind of donation like that.

  21. Ryan's Mommy

I will probably sell them at a garage sale of give them to family that will have kids. Maybe I will keep his favorite toy or toy for him to share with his children. Would be funny to see how much time will have changed by then and what kind of toys they will have then!

after weeding through some great answers i came across an idea in my mind.. i think ill keep all my lil mans til hes old enough that he can make the decision to keep the ones he really likes, then ill take him to a local group in need (theirs TONS where i live) and let him donate some toys, and maybe even let him decide to keep a few for future siblings so he feels like hes helping in the community AND chipping in with the siblings!
